The Session

Listen & Move is an open House Dance and Wellness session held at Grassroots Community Space in Jersey City, NJ. We provide a live DJ set of House, Techno and Experimental Music in a safe space as a platform for anyone to express themselves through movement. Come to dance, stretch, jump or simply listen.

Move however you want to move.

How it Started

A conversation between Founders Mykael and Daniel in 2019 about a lack of spaces and events that were innovating and revitalizing the foundations of the House Music Culture led them to meeting up every week at Grassroots to share music and connect through movement.

In collaboration with The Souljerz Crew, these sessions took on a life of their own very quickly and became a safe space for dancers to session and DJ's and Producers to share their work with the dancers. The DJ/Dancer connection is one of the basic foundations of our culture and we feel that shining light on what the culture is really about is our responsibility.

Our Mission

To share the value we have found with our connection to music and dance with the greater community.

Our Vision

We cannot affect society positively if we don't absolutely take accountability for the affect our individual presence and energy have on our community. Communal Dance presents the metaphor for this concept as it presents an opportunity to address concepts such as spatial awareness, communication and conflict resolution.

Our approach

We provide a safe space to motivate each other to do better and release negative energy through art & movement. We hold each other accountable for our personal and creative development, as a way to help lead people, including ourselves, towards better mental health, and create an overall better society.

Our sessions include people who have been training for years, as well as people just starting on their journey of connecting to movement and music. We create a conduit to the value by sharing our authentic experience and love for the culture which can transcend any separating factor like race, class or gender and create an accessible and inclusive space that promotes personal growth.
